New Hull tech podcast launches to shine light on mental health

A new podcast launched in Hull will examine technology and how it is affecting life and mental health.

The Pig Wrestling Podcast is the brainchild of Think Cloud co-founder Leon McQuade and charity Andy’s Man Club facilitator Paul Longley.

The weekly podcast will feature a different guest each episode, and cover everything from technology and problem solving to the barriers people can face in day-to-day-life.

Paul said: “The podcast name comes from a book I read a few months ago, written by Pete Lindsay and Mark Bawden.

“I found it so informative about problem solving, and if you think you have all the troubles on your shoulders, how to cope with them.

“We decided to launch the podcast, and we have about 16 brilliant guests lined up to appear.”

The podcast aims to shine a light on the challenges faced by people every day, and how technology is shaping our world.

It will follow the theme of 'people, process, technology,' giving each guest the chance to share their story and tips on how to get through the tough days.

Guests set to appear include Paul Spence, founder of Hull charity Paul4Brain, Trans2Performance CEO Martin Johnson and Freya Cross, business and corporate manager at The Deep.

Podcast founders Leon and Paul met through their work at Andy’s Man Club. Both share a passion for personal development and wellbeing.

The Pig Wrestling Podcast is available to listen to across a number of platforms, including Google Podcasts, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Anchor, Overcast and Radiopublic.

Outside of the podcast, Leon has his sights firmly fixed on the growth of the tech firm he co-founded, Think Cloud.

Think Cloud has created four jobs since moving to The Deep in autumn 2018, taking its team to 11, and will soon recruit more people after adding a new dimension to the business with a series of master classes and workshops.

Leon, who co-founded Think Cloud with long-term project partner Scott Clark, said: “One of the reasons for moving to The Deep was to enable us to host events, from small workshops in our own training room to larger sessions in the conference suite at the Business Centre.

“The first one went very well, attracting existing clients and some of our general business contacts and a welcome offshoot is that we’re already being invited to speak at clients’ premises and other events.”

In October, Leon will join a host of top speakers at the Humber Tech Expo, which takes place on Thursday, October 1 and Friday, October 2 at the Bonus Arena in Hull.

Think Cloud’s approach is based on a belief that traditional IT support is outdated, and that the changing digital landscape will see a merger of the accountancy and IT sectors.

The new-look company has invested heavily in adding other services as a re-seller partner for Google Apps, Xero for cloud accounting, Unleashed for inventory management and Hubspot for marketing automation.

The tech firm is on a mission to offer IT services which can transform businesses and save hours of time every week, and has earmarked the manufacturing sector as a target for growth.

Freya Cross, head of business and corporate at The Deep, said: “I am proud that one of our business centre clients, Think Cloud, are leading digital transformation in the Humber sub-region, growing their organisation and finding themselves in demand as expert speakers.”
