After a spell of pleasant weather to see out May, forecasters are predicting June will get off to a warm and sunny start.
The Met Office confirmed last Sunday (May 28) was the hottest day of the year so far but looking ahead this may be overtaken in the coming days. Sunday beat Saturday’s high by a tenth of a degree, with temperatures reaching as high as 24.4C in some areas.
However, the mercury didn't rise above 20C in Liverpool.

According to Accuweather, this Sunday (June 4) is set to be the nicest day of the week. The forecaster predicts highs that feel like 24C, as well as weather that is "mostly sunny and delightful".
Meteorologists are also predicting sunny and warm weather on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, as well as Monday (June 5). As it stands, the rain isn't set to return until next Thursday, June 8, when there will be a "morning shower in spots".
The Met Office gives a similar forecast, with predicted highs of 21C in Liverpool on both Sunday and Monday. Its forecasters say people in and around the city can expect "plenty of strong sunshine" though some cloud is likely at times, mainly during the mornings.
There should be warm days ahead "albeit cool overnight".
