Adam Montgomery, the New Hampshire father convicted of beating his daughter, Harmony, to death and concealing the crime for over two years, was handed a stern sentence on Thursday. The judge sentenced Montgomery to 45 years to life in prison for the second-degree murder charge.
In addition to the murder charge, Montgomery was also found guilty and sentenced for tampering with witnesses, falsifying physical evidence, abuse of a corpse, and second-degree assault.
The tragic case unfolded when Montgomery's estranged ex-wife reported Harmony missing at the beginning of 2021. Manchester police investigation revealed that Harmony had been unaccounted for since 2019.
Prosecutors detailed the harrowing events of December 7, 2019, the day Harmony is believed to have died. Allegedly, Harmony had soiled herself in her sleep, prompting her father to brutally beat her over the head. Montgomery reportedly expressed concern to his wife, stating, 'I think I really hurt her this time.'
Upon realizing that Harmony had passed away, Montgomery allegedly placed her lifeless body in a duffle bag. Prosecutors revealed that he moved her remains multiple times and retained them for weeks before dismembering her and disposing of the body parts in an undisclosed location outside Boston.
The sentencing of Adam Montgomery serves as a grim reminder of the heinous nature of the crime committed against young Harmony. The court's decision to impose a lengthy prison term reflects the severity of the offenses and the need for justice in this heartbreaking case.
