A popular graduate who was a “friend to all” tragically died of Covid days after he turned 21.
Cameron Day, from Mansfield, tested positive for the virus in June 2021, shortly after finishing his graphic design course at University of Lincoln.
He spent weeks in intensive care before being placed in a medically-induced coma on July 24.
He died in Lincoln County Hospital on August 5.
Cameron’s parents Alison Shaw and Neil Day told Nottingham Live : “Cam had the kindest and most generous heart and was always eager to help and support others."
A year on from the tragedy, the pair set up The Cameron Day Charitable Trust, which supports graphic design students aged 18-24 in the East Midlands.
They say the charity means Cameron's name and legacy can live on.
Their son had secured his dream job as a graphic designer at London-based SODA.
Mr Day and Ms Shaw added: "With the help of his family, friends, the University and SODA we are continuing to do what he would do himself.
"We believe that he would be as proud of us for doing this, as we will forever be of him."
The website reads: “The Cameron Day Charitable Trust was established on July 15th 2022 (on his 22nd birthday) to honour Cameron's legacy and continue to support students to achieve their potential in his name.
“The charity seeks to continue supporting students of Graphic Design studying in the East Midlands, encouraging them to achieve their potential, increase their employment opportunities and promote the profile of Graphic Design; all things Cameron would do himself, if only he were able.
“Cam was kind, supportive, intelligent and a friend to all. By sharing Cam’s legacy and continuing to support students with big dreams and ideas just like Cameron, his name and legacy will live on.”
Following his death the University of Lincoln School of Design created an annual award in his memory known as the Cameron Day Award for Contribution in Graphic Design.
The inaugural winner of the £50 prize and certificate was student Ebony Scrimshaw.
