Fresh plans have been brought forward for a chippy to set up at Nottinghamshire retail park. If approved, George’s Tradition fish and chip shop would soon be able to serve customers at a new branch on Lakeside Point Retail Park, in Sutton-in-Ashfield.
The currently empty unit was formerly a Frankie and Benny’s restaurant. It was not reopened after shutting during the Covid pandemic, with many of the chain’s restaurants across Nottinghamshire also being shut down for good.
The proposed plans would allow illuminated signs to be put up and display the branding of George’s Tradition fish and chip shop. The fish and chip shop chain was saved by new owners in December 2021 after going into administration.

At the time of the brand's rescue, it was reported all of its 137 staff members kept their jobs. George's Tradition, which has stores in Long Eaton and West Bridgford, had been saddled with huge historical debts relating to the launch of a different restaurant chain.
The company also has a branches in Chilwell, as well as franchised outlets in Leek, Staffordshire, and Loughborough, Leicestershire. The planning application for the new store is currently pending consideration by Ashfield District Council.
