New ‘environmentally friendly’ play park opens at Cribbs Causeway

A new environmentally-friendly play park has opened at The Mall at Cribbs Causeway.

The shopping centre has partnered with Bristol-based natural outdoor play equipment specialist Touchwood Play to install an innovative and imaginative new play area made almost entirely of wood.

Touchwood specialises in creating unique play experiences where kids can use their imagination to have their own adventures, in a safe, stimulating, natural setting.

Everything the company creates is unique and crafted from locally-sourced durable woods like larch, chestnut and oak, so they blend seamlessly with their natural landscape or provide a hint of woodland magic to more urban locations.

Since launching in 2002, Touchwood has provided play areas for Bicester Village, the National Trust, The Forestry Commission and local Bristol schools such as St Werburgh’s Primary School and The Dolphin School.

The new play park replaces the former play area at The Mall, located outside the entrance to Boots, as it continues its efforts to make the shopping centre a better experience for its many families and younger visitors.

Lizzie Taylor from The Mall at Cribbs Causeway said: “We want to make The Mall a go-to destination for all the family and the new play park will add to the wide variety of great activities Cribbs has for kids.

“It is great to work with such an innovative and unique company like Touchwood who provide amazing spaces for kids to play while doing so in such a sustainable way.

“As a local Bristol supplier, we are very proud to have collaborated with them on this project. We hope kids and their parents enjoy the new facilities on their next visit to The Mall.”

Speaking about the project, TouchWood’s Managing Director, Tim Harms said: “We are absolutely delighted to be working with the team at Cribbs Causeway to design, build and install this highly creative new play area.

“We share many common values, and we are passionate about the use of high quality and sustainable natural materials which will complement their environment.

“Our team of skilled designers and craftsmen have really enjoyed building the many bespoke wooden features for this unique scheme, which will create a fabulous play destination within the heart of the Mall and provide a real sense of joy for the many visitors of all ages.”
