New Edinburgh pizza spot vows to plough profits into helping the community

A new Edinburgh eatery is serving up a slice of community spirit, with any profits re-invested in a local project.

Outta Space Pizza, the latest innovation from Space @ The Broomhouse Hub, will be putting profits back into community services. The project supports hundreds of local people in South West Edinburgh including services for those with dementia, mental health services, and loneliness and isolation projects.

The official launch for Outta Space Pizza saw a community meal at the hub, with locals on hand to sample the offerings - which include gluten free and vegan options.

Fin Clarkson, mission controller at the new spot, said: “Whether you think pineapple is a tropical slice of culinary heaven or satan’s own topping we have something to offer all tastes.

“It was a wonderful atmosphere for the launch event and people seemed to be really happy with what was on offer. Importantly this is a social enterprise project and any profits will be re-invested within The Hub which has been providing services to the community for over 30 years.

“A demonstration of the community commitment was the competition to create the logo. The logo was designed by Sophie Lumsden, 14, who is a member of the Young Carers Group.”

Pizzas are made by hand at the hub, with five jobs created for the new business. Bosses hope that once orders take off, they can expand.

Ooni Pizza Ovens, who create fast cooking pizza ovens, donated £23,000 to the organisation. Fin Clarkson added: “We believe whole-heartedly in ‘Pizza With A Purpose’ and the positive power of a good pepperoni.

“Ooni are a huge global company and it is great that they are looking to support our local community with this donation that will help us to continue putting on free food events, like this one, to help families come together, enjoy great times and of course, pizza that is out of this world!”

Delivery from the restaurant will be available from 5pm Thursday and Friday, though more dates and times will be added as demand takes off.
