New Edinburgh delicatessen selling sweet, savoury and gourmet products to open soon

A new Delicatessen on the outskirts of Edinburgh city centre is set to open at the end of July, with the owner sharing pictures of the progress online.

Anna's Delicacies is due to take over the former Digital Axis grocers, repair shop and newsagents on Earlston Place, just off London Road, with a colourful blue mural being painted over the metal shutter to tease passers by.

The delicatessen, believed to be run by professional chef Andreas Kostos, is aiming to be open by the end of the month, with Instagram posts teasing several mouth-watering Greek cakes and pastries.

Weeks ago, Anna's Delicacies posted on Instagram: "We are working hard to open our doors at the end of July, stay tuned."

While the shutter is closed during the day, hard work appears to be going on behind the scenes and inside the building to get it ready for opening in the next week, with glass counters among items being delivered in recent days.

While updates have been few and far between, on their Facebook page, it advertises the delicatessen as: "Anna’s Delicacies is a sophisticated delicatessen store, a mix of a patisserie, bakery, We sell sweet and savoury delicacies, coffee and packed deli, ethnic & gourmet products."

Handmade chocolate, cakes and homemade honey have been among some of the featured products online, with locals in for a surprise when the store opens.

One thing that they will not be short of in the area is interest in competition. Recently, the Abbeyhill and Meadowbank area has undergone somewhat of a transformation with the £47 million sports centre opening, student accommodation being built nearby and a whole host of independent businesses opening.
