New discount store coming to the Nottingham street in the shadow of Broadmarsh

A new business is coming to an area of Nottingham city centre that has been blighted by a high number of empty shops. Lister Gate was once a thriving shopping street but in January, Nottinghamshire Live counted 19 empty units there.

Business experts have said that the problem of empty units has been "exacerbated" in Nottingham by the state of the former Broadmarsh shopping centre, which Lister Gate lies in the shadow of. Plans were recently revealed to fill many of those units by bringing several health services to the area.

Now, signs outside one of the empty Lister Gate units suggests a new business will soon be coming to the area. Stock Giant is a local discount store offering customers deals on items ranging from toys to electrical goods.

The business already has branches in Sutton and Mansfield, and will now be moving in to the former home of the Gordon Scott shoe shop. An opening date is yet to be revealed, but a sign on the outside of the premises reads: "We are a locally based retailer offering our customers great deals and value for money.

"Our products may be end of range, clearance lines or just great deals. The best way to shop Stock Giant is to pop in regular so as not to miss our great bargains."
