New dark matter map created with 'cosmic fossil' shows Einstein was right (again)

A new map of the sky, made with observations from the Atacama Cosmology Telescope, showing dark matter. The orange regions show where there is more mass; magenta where there is less. Typical features are hundreds of millions of light-years across.

A new map of the cosmos shows the distribution of mysterious dark matter in sharp detail.

The map, which covers a quarter of the sky over Earth and extends deep into the cosmos, was created using a "cosmic fossil" known as the cosmic microwave background (CMB), radiation left over from just after the Big Bang.
