The government has introduced new Covid travel rules for passengers arriving in England from mainland China. Travellers must show proof of a negative Covid-19 test before they leave China from today (January 5).
According to the latest rules set out by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, all travellers aged 12 and over will need to take the test no more than two days before travelling to England and they must show the result to their airline. Border Force may also ask passengers to show the results upon arrival in England.
The decision comes as China has experienced a surge in coronavirus cases following its decision to scrap its ‘zero covid’ policy. The country plans to relax border restrictions next week, allowing people to travel to and from China.
