Infections of Coronavirus across the UK have leapt by 31 per cent in just ten days, according to the latest official data - with the majority of the country seeing a steady increase in virus levels.
Experts are in turn warning that the rise is particularly prevalent across the elderly population.
The MEN reports that some 1.7million private household residents across the nation are likely to have tested positive for the virus between September 23 and October 3, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
