Fans of legendary UFC fighter Conor McGregor will be pleased to hear a brand new docuseries about the sport icon is set to premiere on Netflix this week. The series, directed by Gotham Chopra and Darragh McCarthy, will look over the mixed martial artist and boxer's career, his larger-than-life personality and how he reached worldwide fame.
The series has been rumoured to be in the works for a long time, with reports surfacing as early as 2021. McGregor confirmed the Netflix show back in September the same year, tweeting: “I’m contractually locked into 4, 1 hour episodes that I’ve to produce right now for Netflix. Which give or take I’ve it done already.”
Since then, McGregor has occasionally teased fans with what they can expect to see when the series airs. Most recently, the Irishman posted a trailer for his May 2023 documentary last month.
"You heard it here first. My brand new documentary series McGregor Forever, is coming to @Netflix on May 17! The only place to hear my true story, which is only getting started!" He wrote at the time.
Many fans flooded the comment section with messages of excitement. Randomrecruiter replied: "Can’t wait for this." Jasayoub added: "This is going to be epic, can't wait!" Lunch77Beatz declared: "I will be there no matter what." Lagent213 said: "Looking forward to it champ."
Titled 'McGregor Forever', the series is set to release on Netflix on May 17, 2023 - so only a day left to go. On the streaming service, a description reads: "Conor McGregor's brutal strikes and trash-talking swagger made him the UFC's biggest draw. This rousing docuseries follows his dynamic career."
For those who can't wait, the fighter's 2017 documentary, Conor McGregor: Notorious, is currently available on Netflix. A bio for the documentary reads: "From making ends meet to lavish rides and fur coats, the Irish MMA champion grants an all-access pass to the highs and lows of his ascent."
McGregor, who ranked as Forbes highest paid athlete in 2021 with $180m in earnings in a single year, looks set to make his UFC return later this year against Michael Chandler, whom he is coaching opposite during the current season of 'The Ultimate Fighter'. A date for their face-off is yet to be announced.
