Move over Chanel No. 5, there’s a new fragrance in town that’s been dubbed the ‘Scent of the Internet’ and it smells like... sweat?
OK, so maybe not our new go-to but we’d be lying if we said we weren’t intrigued and I mean, who hasn’t wondered what the internet would smell like if it had an odor, right?
The perfume, which is now available to purchase at the HIGHArt Museum Store for $150, is a result of High Snobiety’s artistic partnership with perfume professionals, Society of Scent, and Berlin-based art collective, New Models.
“An extractive web of raw minerals and sweat, spiking dopamine and desperate self-monetization from the vantage of a polyurethane chair,” reads the description on the product page.
The 15 ml bottle is also described as smelling like “the earth.”
Co-founder of New Models, Carly Busta, spoke of the thought process behind the new smell in an interview with the outlet sharing that they were inspired by “the fact that smell, our most primal sense, is not engaged whatsoever while using the internet” a fact that some might find “concerning considering the degree to which it’s used to organize the world.”
She added: “It’s animalic. But also, the scent is somehow addictive. I wake up craving it.”
So when would be a good time to whip out your new signature scent?
Lil Internet, co-founder of New Models, explained: “I think ‘The Internet’ is a really good scent for those days where you’re at home or in the office sitting on your computer for 10 hours. If you wear it on your computer days, now those days will have a smell, and may even take on more of a shape for you.”
