New Clan signing Colton Waltz relishing quick reunion with former club Fife Flyers

New Clan signing Colton Waltz is looking forward to getting straight into action against his former club this weekend.

The Braehead Arena outfit announced the defenceman’s signing earlier this week, joining from Scottish rivals Fife Flyers for the remainder of the season.

As fate would have it, the six-foot-one blueliner will come straight back up against his old side tomorrow when they travel to Renfrewshire.

And he’s looking forward to coming up against his old teammates in the hotly-anticipated meeting between the two sides.

“It’s great to sign for the Clan and I’m excited for this new challenge as we start to look towards the end of the season,” he said.

“I’m really enjoying life in the UK and when this opportunity came up, I couldn’t wait to jump on it and get to work straight away.

“It’s going to be weird to be playing against guys who were my team-mates until very recently, but it’s going to be a lot of fun at the same time.

“The fact it’s a big rivalry game makes it all the more exciting and I’m thrilled to get the chance to meet the fans in my first game.”

Waltz made 17 appearances for Todd Dutiaume’s side after joining them in November from ECHL side Cincinnati Cyclones, scoring once and grabbing two assists.

The 27-year-old can play on the left side of defence and his frame makes him an imposing figure for any offensive players.

But Clan head coach Malcolm Cameron spoke of other qualities Waltz has that could be key as the season enters into a crucial phase.

“We’re happy to add Colton to our line-up and gives us some depth as we make our way towards the end of the season and hopefully a run in the play-offs,” he said.

“With the heavy schedule we’ve had and the weeks to come, we don’t want to run into a situation where we’re running shorthanded for long periods of time.

“I coached against him when he was with the Brandon Wheat Kings in the WHL and he was a leader in the team.

“Having leadership qualities is something you can’t have enough of and we’re excited to have him.”

With Colton’s signing, it now means former defenceman Reece Cochrane’s registration is released.

Face off at Braehead Arena tomorrow is at 7pm with tickets still available.
