Clair Obscur: Expedition 33's latest dev blog showcases the development of the recently added photo mode, including "some unexpected and quite funny issues", where characters would become "displaced or deformed."
The post highlights Gustave, whose cheeks and chin have melted through his trousers to the floor, and Sophie, whose head is completely detached from her body. While these effects are apparently due to a bug due to characters existing off-screen for a while, there are other funnier intended consequences of the new mode.
Not only will Expedition 33 allow you to take photos during gameplay, but it will also allow you to take photos during cinematics. This means zooming out during cutscenes to reveal things that were never supposed to be on camera. This includes Lune with contorted legs and arms sticking straight out as she has a heartfelt talk with Gustave. Oh, and Maelle is just in the corner, covered in blood.
"It allows players to see a lot of things we don’t want to show during normal gameplay," senior gameplay programmer Florian Torres writes. "The photo mode became a way to peek behind the scenes of each cinematic or environment, and sometimes even see how we have created the entire game."
Photo mode was added into Expedition 33 following the free December update, which added new weapons, quests, and bosses, to celebrate the French RPG's slew of award wins. Luckily, the accolades simply won't stop rolling in, so perhaps another major free update is on the horizon.
