One of the newest members of the Kansas City Chiefs defense is set to wear his college jersey number with his new team.
After signing his contract on Tuesday, new Chiefs LB Drue Tranquill took to Twitter to share his excitement for joining the team. He shared a handful of adorable photos of his family and also revealed his new jersey number in Kansas City. After wearing No. 49 for four seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers, Tranquill is going back to his college jersey number with No. 23.

It’s a peculiar number for a linebacker, but it makes plenty of sense for Tranquill. He was recruited out of high school as a safety and eventually made the switch to linebacker at Notre Dame. His background as a safety is a huge part of his playstyle in the NFL and it often shows up when he’s playing coverage.
The switch to No. 23 for Tranquill does raise a pretty big question, though. What jersey number will CB Joshua Williams wear in 2023? He wore the No. 23 last season and when people started asking questions, he took to Twitter to ask the Chiefs Kingdom for their best guesses on his new number for the 2023 NFL season.
What number y’all think I switched to? I’ve seen a lot of good guesses lol.

A lot of people predict he could wear No. 2 in Kansas City next season as that was his number with Fayetteville State, while others think he could be taking Juan Thornhill’s old jersey (No. 22). What number do you think he’ll wear? Let us know your thoughts on Facebook and Twitter.
