New Chelsea manager: Frank Lampard to hold Mauricio Pochettino talks as club target smooth transition

Frank Lampard will make himself available as a sounding board for Mauricio Pochettino to help ensure a smooth transition for the incoming Chelsea head coach at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are closing in on the appointment of Pochettino, but Lampard will remain in charge on an interim basis before the former Tottenham manager takes over at the end of the season.

Lampard wants to help Chelsea through a difficult period and is willing to talk to Pochettino before the summer about the squad he will be inheriting and anything else he wants to know.

Pochettino is expected to be appointed following positive talks over the past week and he is set to be joined at Chelsea by his assistant Jesus Perez, coach Miguel D’Agostino, goalkeeping coach Toni Jimenez and his son Sebastiano, a sports scientist.

Pochettino impressed co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Egbhali during talks and has made it clear he wants to join Chelsea, despite his Spurs connections.

Chelsea have space for new coaches after Billy Reid quit alongside Graham Potter, while Anthony Barry has joined Thomas Tuchel at Bayern Munich. Bruno Saltor and Bjorn Hamberg are likely to leave, while goalkeeping coach Ben Roberts could also depart.
