New Arnold cake shop sells out of 2,000 cakes on opening day

Mouth-watering slices of chocolate cake, cookies and cheesecakes proved irresistible to the all-day queue at a new Arnold shop. When the Sweet House Bakery opened its doors at the weekend, sweet-toothed fans couldn't get enough of the delicious array and cleared them out.

The sell-out success by mid-afternoon meant owners Steffanie Woodhouse and partner Mat Blood had to close on Sunday, October 9, to replenish the display at the shop in Coppice Road. Steffanie, 28, said: "We sold 2,000 slices and cheesecakes. It was amazing, I couldn't have asked for a better turnout.

"I definitely thought I'd got enough. It's what I normally bake in two-and-a half-weeks in the one day. The queue was constant. We really wanted to open on Sunday but because it's a two-day process for the cake, from baking, setting, decorating and slicing it's just impossible to be able to get it done overnight."
