An Australian-inspired café concept is moving to South Bristol this month. Nook will be opening its third site on North Street in Bedminster serving smoothies, buddha bowls and juices ideal for those embarking on a health kick at the start of the new year.
Bath-born Millie Clifford, 31, is the brains behind the café concept that already has two successful sites in Frome and her home city. She was brought up on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia and conceived the idea for Nook while sitting on a beach in Byron Bay back in 2018 after feasting on vibrant, beautiful dishes.
"There was nowhere in town that sold smoothies, cold press juice, or poke bowls so I thought - why don't I just do it?" Millie said. "Frome was also rapidly becoming a place to eat out with a varied café and restaurant scene and I knew this would add to it."

She opened her first café in Frome alongside co-owner Jake Andrew in September 2018 when she was 27 offering a relaxed environment for people to eat healthy food that doesn't compromise on taste. Bu November 2021, Nook had opened its second site in Bath city centre with Bristol's North Street now set to be home to café number three later this month.
"North Street, Bedminster appealed to me because of its amazing community that champions local, independent businesses. I knew I wanted to open in an area for locals and regulars to come daily, weekly - a real café that focuses on adding to the local community and providing the people with nourishing, healthy and tasty food that is not available currently."
The empty North Street unit had previously been the home of Bravo's English and Caribbean restaurant. It stands between Hennesseys coffee house and The Aquatic Store in an area that had seen a surge in new businesses over the past few months.
All the dishes are made in-house by the Nook team and are naturally gluten and dairy free, with the dishes being made using wholefoods such as vegetables, fruits, nuts, pulses and grains. Nook makes all of its juices off-site in its very own cold press juicery.
Explaining the menu, Millie said: "I made the menu 100 per cent gluten and dairy free, with lots of plant-based options- so it also tapped into a market, providing people with dietary requirements a safe place they could eat anything. We sell Speciality coffee, Superfood Smoothies, Breakfast Bowls (granola, porridge, eggs and greens) Acai Smoothie Bowls, Poke Bowls, Miso Broth Bowls, Sweet treats and Cold Press Juices."
The Bristol café will initially be open Wednesday - Sunday from 8am until 4pm with plans to open seven days a week from spring 2023. Keep an eye on Nook's Instagram page for the exact opening date.
