West End stars Fra Fee and Amy Lennox are taking over the leading roles in the award-winning production of Cabaret.

The pair, who will play The Emcee and Sally Bowles respectively, will replace Eddie Redmayne and Jessie Buckley in the hit show.

Director Rebecca Frecknall said: “It’s always exciting to be able to keep a production live and evolving across its run, to be able to continue digging into the piece and making new discoveries.

“The fact that we will have new actors taking on the roles of Sally and the Emcee as Cabaret continues to run in the West End is thrilling, the original cast passing the baton to different actors who will bring their own perspectives to the work.

“I’m thrilled that Fra Fee and Amy Lennox will be the first new pair joining the production this Spring, two of our most exciting stage and screen actors. I know they will bring new creative energy to the production and will show me and our audiences new facets of the show.”

The show, set in 1930s Berlin as the Nazis rise to power, has completely transformed the West End’s Playhouse Theatre into the KitKat club where the production is set.

Audiences are led down a set of stairs and through narrow corridors before entering the club complete with musicians and dancers in costume performing in bars offering beer and schnapps.

The musical had its debut in 1966 and is inspired by a play which is in turn based on a novel by English writer Christopher Isherwood who lived in Berlin in the 1930s.

The German capital was renowned for its avant-garde nightlife and sexual freedom until Hitler’s coming to power swept it away.

Fee, who recently starred in the Disney+ series Hawkeye, has appeared at the Royal Court, the National Theatre and on Broadway while Lennox was nominated for an Olivier Award for her performance in Kinky Boots and also appeared in Lazarus, Legally Blonde and 9 to 5 The Musical.

The pair will start on stage on March 21 until June 25.
