New boss of Nottingham's oldest gay bar feared venue would be turned into housing

The new owner of Nottingham's oldest gay bar has spoken of his plans to create big events and keep the venue a safe space for the city's community. The New Foresters, in St Ann's Street, has been an LGBTQ+ pub since 1958 but was put up for sale earlier this year.

The new landlord, Brent Foster, decided to take over the pub in order to save it from being transformed into a restaurant or student accommodation. "I've been coming into the pub for about 10 years and it was a place that I came to when I first came out as gay.

It was nice to come somewhere where there were like-minded people who were going through what I was. I met a lot of friendly people here and it's a safe space," he said.
