New Blade Runner TV series set to be filmed in Northern Ireland

A sequel to the cult classic film Blade Runner is set to be the next major production to film in Northern Ireland.

Northern Ireland Screen confirmed that the new TV series Blade Runner 2099 for Amazon Studios will be filmed in in the province.

The news was announced at an event launching the screen agency's new strategy 'Stories, Skills and Sustainability' detailing plans for the next four years while celebrating the success and groundbreaking achievements of the industry.

Amazon Studios first announced that it was developing a series for the Blade Runner universe in February.

The limited series is reported to be a sequel to the 1982 film and the 2017 film Blade Runner 2049 - directed by Denis Villeneuve.- Ridley Scott, director of the original Blade Runner film is set to act as Executive Producer for the series.

The original film is an adaptation of Philip K. Dick's novel 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?' and is set in a dystopian future Los Angeles in 2019 where synthetic humans are bio-engineered to work on space colonies.

The 2017 sequel was set 30 years after the first film. The title of the live-action series, Blade Runner 2099, suggests that the new show will take place after the events of Blade Runner 2049.
