New 'Barbie' Movie Goes Viral Using Technology in a Playful Way

This summer's next highly anticipated box-office smash is based on one of the most long-standing names in children's toys. The Barbie Doll has captivated the hearts and minds of kids for generations. Thanks to the doll's inventor Ruth Handler, Barbie is also the foundation of one of the biggest toy companies in the world, Mattel (MAT).

The evolution of Barbie has been a mirror for the aspirations of young people, particularly girls, since the 1960s. So when a giant production company started advertising a film about the doll in the era of self-aware comedy, directed by renowned feminist director Greta Gerwig, nearly every ear perked up in curiosity.

The film's promotion has been as fun and creative as you might expect -- and now, thanks to the help of an AI art generator, a viral Barbie meme is letting fans make Barbie movie posters with their selfies.

We couldn't resist running a few of our favorite investing personalities through the generator to see what kind of Barbie they'd be.

Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) spent a reported $100 million bringing the world of pink and plastic to the silver screen. The cast is packed full of some of Hollywood's biggest celebrities. The use of this new viral meme could be an indicator of the movie's opening weekend ticket sales.

As artificial intelligence works its way into every corner of the internet, many have speculated that utilization of the technology will determine which companies can keep up with the innovation. This promotion is likely the first of many viral movie memes to come -- and the Barbie marketing team is likely very pleased right now.
