New banking hub for Ayrshire town will play "vital role" in the community, says MSP

Troon’s new banking hub will play a “vital role” for people seeking access to regular high street banking and cash withdrawals, or deposits.

That’s the view of Ayr MSP Siobhian Brown, who was on hand at the ribbon-cutting ceremony in the town’s Ayr Street last Friday.

Ms Brown was joined by Central Ayrshire MP, Dr Philippa Whitford, and other stakeholders, as the new hub was officially opened before greeting its first customers.

Troon’s Banking Hub is a shared banking space and will offer a counter service operated by the Post Office, where customers of all major banks and building societies can carry out regular cash transactions, Monday to Friday.

The Hub also offers a Community Banker service where customers can talk to their own banking provider about more complicated issues.

The Community Bankers will work on rotation, with a different bank or building society available on each day of the week.

MSP Ms Brown said: “A big congratulations to the team behind this project. The new hub looks great and will play a vital role in ensuring the people of Troon have access to banking and cash.

“The hub which is shared by a variety of banks will allow you to deposit and withdraw money, pay cheques and bills, and get advice from your bank.”

Central Ayrshire MP, Dr Whitford, said: “It was an honour to cut the ribbon and finally declare Troon’s new Banking Hub officially open!

“I am in no doubt the people of Troon will be delighted to see banking services return to our town.”

She added: “It was great to meet the Post Office staff who will provide the standard banking counter services as well as the Community Bankers from RBS, BoS, Santander and Virgin Money, who will be available each week to provide more specialised assistance.”

The need for a new banking hub grew when Troon’s last remaining bank, The Bank of Scotland branch in Templehill, closed in September 2022.

Gareth Oakley, CEO of Cash Access UK said: “Having access to cash services is vital for millions of people around the UK, particularly in challenging financial times, so I’m delighted to announce the opening of the Banking Hub in Troon.”
