A 1988 whisky cask distilled at The Macallan has broken the record for the most expensive ever sold at auction - going for just under $1.3m.
The cask was discovered after being forgotten about for more than three decades. The 33 year-old cask fetched $1,295,500 - which included buyer’s premium.
It was sold on the online auction site the Whisky Hammer and beat the previous record for a cask sold for $572,000 at an auction held by Bonhams.
