Rumors are swirling about this week regarding the future of Assassin’s Creed. We already knew a small-scale spinoff codenamed Rift was in the works, and more details are coming to light from various sources.
On Tuesday, YouTuber Jeremy “ACG” Penter made a tweet claiming that the next Assassin’s Creed would have an Aztec setting somewhere in Central America. However, Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier shot down this assertion quickly.
“The next [Assassin’s Creed] game is Rift, which is set in Baghdad,” Schreier said on Reddit. “After that will be [Assassin’s Creed Infinity], and while that’s going to include a bunch of different games/experiences/biomes/whatever you want to call them, I’ve heard about the main two, and neither of them are Aztec.”
Schreier broke the initial Rift story in February, revealing that it will likely star Basim from Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla and will have an emphasis on stealth. Eurogamer went on to corroborate that report as well. Obviously, take all of this with a pinch of salt until Ubisoft comes out and announces something, but yeah — it seems Assassin’s Creed Rift will likely be set in Baghdad, Iraq.
Ubisoft is hosting a multi-game showcase in September. So we might learn some concrete information there regarding Assassin’s Creed Rift or the ambitious live-service title Assassin’s Creed Infinity at the event. Until then, though, all we can do is speculate.
