New and existing PIP claimants may see changes to Motability Scheme start this summer

Adult Disability Payment has started to replace Personal Independence Payment (PIP) for new claimants living in Dundee City, Perth and Kinross or the Western Isles with the next stage of the phased rollout due to open in Angus, North Lanarkshire and South Lanarkshire on Monday, June 20.

The new benefit means that people of working age with a disability, long-term illness or physical or mental health condition can now apply for support to Social Security Scotland instead of the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) for PIP.

Existing PIP and Disability Living Allowance (DLA) claimants with ongoing awards from the DWP do not need to apply for Adult Disability Payment, these cases will be transferred automatically to the devolved system with no break in entitlement or payment. Social Security Scotland will write to claimants in advance of the transfer process starting.
