A new digital music station dedicated to the hits of the 80s was launched overnight.
Classic Hits 80s began broadcasting from the early hours of this morning by well known Ireland's Classic Hits Radio. It will operate as a brand extension to the main Classic Hits Radio service, featuring music, news and lifestyle information, a late Christmas present to fans of the much loved 80s decade.
Speaking to Dublin Live about the station, CEO Kevin Branigan said: “Ireland’s Classic Hits Radio is a premium brand that broadcasts to 2.5M people across Ireland’s major urban areas. We’re always interested in expanding and trying new ideas and this is just the latest in our drive to grow our brand and position as one of the largest radio stations in the country.

"We’ve operated Classic Hits 80s as a digital brand extension on our website, smartphone apps and the Irish Radio Player for some time and now we’re bringing it to FM radio across the four major cities of Ireland. We believe in innovation, driving new initiatives and developing our brands in the competitive Irish radio market.
"Bringing Classic Hits 80s to FM radio is the perfect way for us to reinforce our main Classic Hits brand through the hugely popular medium of radio. We’re assembled a great team and it’s going to be a lot of fun!”
Classic Hits 80s will feature the biggest artists and songs from the decade; the presentation team will feature presenters from the main Classic Hits Radio service such as Colm Hayes and Lucy Kennedy, Trina Mara, Damien Farrelly, Robbie Fogarty and Brian Walsh and new arrivals, including Declan Ralph, Robbie Kane, Emily Brew, Paul McGuinness and Dave Daly, as well as 80s pop star Kim Wilde.
Station Manager Matt Demspey, will also be involved presenting the station's breakfast show with programme support from Dave Kelly and Liam Thompson. Classic Hits 80s will broadcast from the Classic Hits Radio studios at Castleforbes House, Dublin 1, also headquarters of Radio Nova and Sunshine 106.8. appearing where Xmas Fm was for the last month to Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Galway for 30 days under a temporary licence from the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland.
