New £150 disability cost of living payment update for people due money from next week

An estimated 6.7 million people claiming disability benefits across Scotland, England and Wales are set to receive a one-off payment of £150 from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) between Tuesday, June 20 and Tuesday, July 4. While there is no set payment pattern, DWP has updated online guidance to advise people when it can be reported missing, if it fails to arrive during the two-week window.

People in receipt of an eligible disability benefit will receive the money automatically, so it’s important everyone expecting this one-off lump sum does not report it missing until July 5 - the day after the payment window closes - as DWP said “we will not be able to take any action” until that date.

The guidance on GOV.UK states: “You will be able to report a missing Disability Cost of Living Payment from 5 July 2023. Do not contact us before then as we will not be able to take any action.”

Eight benefits qualify for the payment including Personal Independence Payment (PIP), Attendance Allowance, Disability Living Allowance (DLA) and Adult Disability Payment. To qualify, claimants must have received a payment on April 1, 2023 - or later found to be eligible.

For those people awaiting confirmation of their entitlement to disability benefits on April 1, or who are waiting to be assessed for eligibility to receive disability benefits, the payment process may take longer and arrive after the scheduled window closes on July 4, but DWP said the money will still arrive automatically.
