What is an ETA and how can visitors to the UK apply for the new visa?

A new warning has been issued to overseas visitors to the United Kingdom: the vast majority of arrivals must now obtain an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) in advance.

While incoming travellers who failed to comply have been given a pass, that option will come to an end within three months.
