Two young Nevada voters who attended Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign event in Las Vegas shared differing opinions on whether President Joe Biden should step aside and not seek reelection.
Kyle Alamshaw, a 22-year-old student at the University of Houston, expressed concerns about Biden's age and performance in the recent debate. Alamshaw stated, 'He’s getting old and especially with what happened two weeks ago at the debate — if he keeps it up, I’m worried that he’s not going to win in November, and we cannot take four more years of Trump.'
Despite his reservations, Alamshaw affirmed that he would support the Democratic candidate regardless of Biden's decision.
On the other hand, Carolyn Salvador Avila, a student at the University of Las Vegas and the National President for College Democrats of America, defended Biden's position and accomplishments. She emphasized the importance of Biden's efforts in gun violence prevention, citing the bipartisan Safer Communities Act as a significant step forward.
Salvador Avila highlighted Biden's advocacy for issues relevant to young people, stating, 'We’ve seen him fight for so many other things that are important for people my age.'
The contrasting viewpoints of these young voters reflect the diversity of opinions within the Democratic Party regarding Biden's potential reelection bid. While Alamshaw raises concerns about Biden's age and performance, Salvador Avila praises his track record and commitment to key issues.
As the 2024 election approaches, the debate over Biden's candidacy is likely to continue among voters, highlighting the importance of engaging with a range of perspectives within the party.
