Netherlands claim World Cup Group F top spot with dominant Tunisia victory

  • The Netherlands secured the top position in World Cup Group F after defeating Tunisia 3-1 in Kansas City, establishing an early two-goal lead within the first seven minutes of the match.
  • Tunisia's Ellyes Skhiri scored an own goal in the third minute, followed by Brian Brobbey doubling the Dutch advantage shortly after, tapping in a header from Virgil van Dijk.
  • Although Tunisia briefly reduced the deficit early in the second half with a header from Hazem Mastouri, Jan Paul van Hecke quickly restored the Netherlands' two-goal cushion from a corner.
  • Dutch coach Ronald Koeman expressed satisfaction with securing first place, while Tunisia's coach Herve Renard admitted his team was not at the required level for the tournament, exiting without any points.
  • In the other Group F fixture, Japan and Sweden drew 1-1 in Dallas, with Japan progressing in second place behind the Netherlands, and Sweden advancing as one of the best third-placed teams.
