Viewers have been sharing their thoughts on survival horror film 47 Meters Down (2017) recently, with some suggesting that it makes for 'terrifying' and 'traumatising' viewing.
The film, which has recently been added to Netflix, centres on sisters Kate (played by Claire Holt) and Lisa ( Mandy Moore ) who decide to spend an afternoon cage diving whilst the pair are on holiday together in Mexico.
Whilst they are in the cage, the winch system that holds it up breaks, plummeting them down to the ocean floor. The siblings are then trapped inside the cage underwater.
47 Meters Down follows their attempt to escape as air supplies run low and they are stalked by great white sharks, whilst unable to communicate with those above the surface.
It spawned the sequel 47 Meters Down: Uncaged (2019), which followed new characters who end up trapped by a group of sharks whilst scuba diving in a sunken city.
The original film is currently on Netflix in the UK and is available through other platforms elsewhere, with it having prompted some reaction from viewers in recent months.
One person tweeted: "The 47 Metres Down movie and Uncaged the sequel TERRIFIED me like all my nightmares in a film ahhh."
Another said: "47 metres down is the worst movie I've ever seen what the f*** I AM TRAUMATISED".
Sharing their thoughts, another person tweeted recently: "47 Meters Down on Netflix was pretty good. Just a constant reminder of why I'm not ever scuba diving or snorkelling".
Others described the film as "pretty intense," "anxiety producing" and "so tense". Another person tweeted: "I wanna go cave diving but 47 Meters Down got me spooked [as f***]".
Recalling having seen the film when it was released, one person said: "[It] had my knees buckling outside the theatre afterwards. I was shook". They added: "I was genuinely afraid".
Others have shared their thoughts about the film over the years, including one person who tweeted last year: "I don't get scared by horror movies that much but 47 Metres Down has me hiding behind a pillow".
One viewer tweeted in 2019: "Just [watched it]. Never ever ever going in a shark cage". It promoted someone, who expressed interest in the activity, to ask: "Should I not watch it?"
In response to the question, the viewer replied on the platform a few years ago: "Er, no! When you realise what could possibly go wrong, no you shouldn't! Omg".
47 Meters Down was directed by Johannes Roberts, whose other credits include horrors The Strangers: Prey at Night (2018) and Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (2021).
Alongside leads Claire and Mandy - whose credits include The Vampire Diaries and This Is Us respectively - the cast of the film also included Stranger Things alum Matthew Modine.
Although there are some unfavourable reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, a four star review from last month reads: "A really well made shark film that is TERRIFYING".
"Best Shark movie since Jaws ... one of those things could really happen," said another person a few months ago. This sentiment was shared by another viewer last year.
The sequel Uncaged once again focused on two siblings, though instead it followed step-sisters Mia (Sophie Nélisse) and Sasha (Corinne Foxx) rather than Kate and Lisa.
