Her world turns upside down when a wealthy real estate mogul named Nile Jarvis (Matthew Rhys) moves in next door. Jarvis has a murky past: he was once the prime suspect in his wife’s disappearance. ‘Absentia’
It’s no secret that Netflix viewers can’t get enough of thrillers, so it’s no surprise that the psychological thriller “Absentia” has landed in the top 10. The series originally premiered on Prime Video in 2018 and ran for three seasons before it was canceled. With its rights on Prime Video now expired, it’s no longer available there, making Netflix the new home for viewers eager to dive into the tense, gripping story.
“Absentia” follows FBI Special Agent Emily Byrne (Stana Katic), who vanishes while chasing a notorious serial killer and is presumed dead for six years. When she’s finally found alive in a remote cabin having survived horrifying captivity, she returns to a life that’s completely moved on. Her husband, Nick (Patrick Heusinger), has remarried, and their son barely remembers her. Suffering from amnesia and PTSD, Emily must piece together what happened to her.

‘Last Samurai Standing’
Netflix’s 2025 originals have been pretty inconsistent, and only a handful have really stuck with me. In fact, the international releases have been carrying the year, and the newest standout is the Japanese action series “Last Samurai Standing.” After finishing it, I’m comfortable calling it one of the strongest streaming originals of 2025.
“Last Samurai Standing” is a gripping historical action-thriller set in late-19th-century Japan, during the Meiji era. With the samurai class all but outlawed, 292 fallen warriors are drawn into a brutal, secret tournament called Kodoku, hosted at Kyoto’s Tenryūji Temple. Each fighter carries a wooden tag, and by stealing opponents’ tags and fighting to survive the checkpoints on a deadly journey to Tokyo, only one can win, and that winner claims a massive prize of 100 billion yen. At the center is Shujiro Saga (Junichi Okada), a former undefeated samurai.
