True crime has surged in popularity in recent years, with a new chilling drama based on true events seemingly released every week. If you are itching to get your next true crime fix, Netflix has just the thing.
The streaming giant is gearing up to release The Good Nurse, a new film based on the harrowing events surrounding American serial killer Charlie Cullen. It follows a nurse as she is confronted with suspicions that her colleague is responsible for the deaths of hundreds of patients at nine different hospitals across his 16-year career.

The Good Nurse cast and crew
The Good Nurse boasts an Oscar winning cast fronted by Jessica Chastain (Interstellar) and Eddie Redmayne ( Fantastic Beasts ) as two intensive care nurses – one of whom harbours a chilling and deadly secret. In supporting roles, Kim Dickens (House of Cards) and Noah Emmerich (The Truman Show) feature as a yet unnamed hospital administrator and investigating officer Tim Braun respectively.
Behind the camera sits an Oscar nominated team of director Tobias Lindholm (Another Round) and writer Krysty Wilson-Cairns (1917, Last Night in Soho). Wilson-Cairns adapted the screenplay from Charles Graeber’s 2013 book of the same name.
What is it about?
Amy (Jessica Chastain), a compassionate nurse and single mother struggling with a life-threatening heart condition, is stretched to her physical and emotional limits by the hard and demanding night shifts in the intensive care unit. But help arrives when Charlie (Eddie Redmayne), a thoughtful and empathetic fellow nurse, starts at her unit.
While sharing long nights at the hospital, the two develop a strong and devoted friendship, and for the first time in years, Amy truly has faith in her and her young daughters’ future. But after a series of mysterious patient deaths sets off an investigation that points to Charlie as the prime suspect, Amy is forced to risk her life and the safety of her children to uncover the truth.
When is The Good Nurse released?
The Good Nurse is available to stream on Netflix on Wednesday, October 26. If you prefer to get your true crime fix on the big screen, it is being shown in select cinemas - including Curzon and Showcase - across the UK from Friday, October 21.
