Making her new film was a family affair for Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown – her brother, sister and dad all worked alongside her.
The British star says her “amazing” family and boyfriend Jake Bongiovi, son of Bon Jovi singer Jon, were a “comfort blanket” to stop her feeling lonely on set for Enola Holmes 2.
Millie, 18, who found fame playing Eleven in Stranger Things, returns as Sherlock Holmes’s sleuth sister in the Netflix sequel.
Sister Paige and dad Robert work for her production company, PCMA Productions, and brother Charlie got involved behind the scenes.
She also has younger sister Ava, 10.
Millie said: “They are incredibly creative people. And to be able to be a part of that journey with them – it was the best love and support anyone could ever have.”
Leaving loved ones behind for months on end to shoot can be really isolating, she said, adding: “To be able to turn and see my brother and to see my sister, they’re... incredible collaborators.
“And to have them on set was just this comfort blanket, but also a certain level of respect that I had never really known that I had.
“My brother’s very professional and I was always kind of like ‘Let’s have lunch together’, which was really sweet.”
Jake, 20, and her family are also by Millie’s side as she tours to promote the film.
She added: “It means everything. They know that my life wouldn’t go on without them and they need to come and celebrate with me.”
The series is based on the books by American author Nancy Springer, and in the latest instalment Enola follows in the footsteps of her brother Sherlock, played by Henry Cavill, and opens her own detective agency.
Helena Bonham Carter, David Thewlis and Sharon Duncan-Brewster also co-star.
Millie revealed the A-listers got on “so great” with her family – and said Superman star Henry, 39, was like an older brother.
She said: “We went straight back into our bickering, which feels only right for the type of relationship that we have.
“And Helena [was] being that constant light on set that you just kind of sometimes need. She has the best laugh ever.”
Millie said there was a lot of ad-libbing during filming – and says with this movie “most of it’s improv”.
Turnaround was quick – the actress left the set of Stranger Things season four on a Friday and squeezed into a corset for Enola Holmes 2 on the Monday.
She said: “I still had pimples on my forehead from the wig of the bald cap that I wore for season four.”
And she is “slowly coming to terms” with making the final season of the hit horror series.
She added: “I’m ready.”
