The return of Netflix's hit property series Selling Sunset has sparked a huge surge in holiday bookings with impressionable Brits flocking to Los Angeles. The latest season of the reality TV phenomenon dropped on the streaming service last week - much to the delight of diehard fans.
Series six of the smash hit show was announced last year and news instantly triggered a spike in demand for breaks to the City of Angels. According to new stats, just hours before the new season premiered, demand soared.
Travel holiday specialist, On the Beach, claims to have seen a 116 per cent increase in bookings to the state populated by the rich and famous as fans searched for a taste of the luxe life. Filmed across LA, Selling Sunset follows the elegant lives of a group of elite real estate brokers at the opulent Oppenheim Group as they attempt to sell dream properties to affluent buyers worldwide.
On the Beach’s data analysts have witnessed bookings to the hotspot rise rapidly over the past few days, specifically across the 35–45-year-old demographic, as fever for the sixth instalment heats up - with Netflix already confirming a seventh series.
Even online enquiries have risen dramatically in the past week, with searches for flights to Los Angeles shooting up by more than 30 percent since the start of the week (Sunday, May 14).
Zoe Harris, Chief Customer Officer at On the Beach said: “There is such a buzz of excitement around Selling Sunset, which only continues to grow in popularity with every new season that drops. There has been a 32 per cent increase in Google searches for flights to Los Angeles in just this week alone, while we’ve seen triple-digit increases in bookings to the city.
"People cannot wait to immerse themselves in all things Selling Sunset! As with so many cultural sensations, it’s presence is affecting customer behaviours, inspiring Brits’ holiday plans as they source a slice of extravagance for themselves."
And it appears far flung destinations are only gaining in popularity among Brits in 2023. Just last month, On the Beach released data that revealed almost half (44 per cent) of its customers opted for long-haul holidays in early May 2023.
Renowned celeb hotspot Dubai was among the most popular destinations, revealed On the Beach, alongside transatlantic trips to Las Vegas and Mexico.
