Heartstopper fans' hearts skipped a beat on Friday, when it was announced that the hugely popular show had been renewed for two more seasons.
The emotionally charged drama is without a doubt THE word of mouth TV success story of 2022, as viewers across the globe helped it become the streaming service's most watched thing on there within days of its release. Based on the visual books from Alice Oseman, Heartstopper centres on Charlie Spring and Nick Nelson, played by Joe Locke and Kit Connor, whose lives collide when they are sat together every day in their school form class. On the face of things, the two couldn't be more different, with openly gay Charlie and rugby team hero Nick having never seen their paths cross prior to be being chosen to share a desk after a class reshuffle at the start of a new year.
But, without spoiling things too much for those who haven't seen it, their relationship takes turn that neither of them was predicting, as other actors William Gao as Tao, Yasmin Finney as Elle, Rhea Norwood as Imogen and Corinna Brown as Tara, all play their parts, as well as tackling issues of their own.
After just watching a few episodes, people were declaring Heartstopper the 'best thing ever on Netflix' and then after finishing it were instantly wanting more. Well now their wishes have come true, as on Friday afternoon author Alice revealed Heartstopper will be back for two more seasons. She posted a video of her holding a picture of Charlie and Nick, along with the tag "2 more seasons!"
It didn't take long for news of Alice's post to reach Twitter, with one fan reacting: "TWO MORE SEASONS TWO MORE SEASONS TWO MORE SEASONS" and another tweeting: "how am i supposed to go outside and act like a normal person today knowing heartstopper got renewed for TWO MORE SEASONS ???"
Netflix also made a statement, writing: "To those who have fallen in love with Nick & Charlie, cried watching Alice Oseman's magical story brought to life, or felt represented for the first time on-screen, I am elated to announce... Heartstopper has been renewed for TWO MORE SEASONS!"
