The biggest TV awards ceremony of the year – the Emmys – has announced its latest round of nominations.

On Wednesday (17 July), at 11.30am ET/16.30pm BST, Veep star Tony Hale and Abbott Elementary’s Sheryl Lee Ralph revealed the TV shows and stars in contention for this year’s trophies.

The 2024 ceremony will be held on September 15 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. It arrives just months after the delayed 2023 Emmy Awards were broadcast in early January due to last year’s actors’ and writers’ strikes.

Shōgun led the nominations with a whopping 25 nods. The Bear followed closely behind with 23 nominations while Richard Gadd’s Netflix hit, Baby Reindeer, shrugged off controversy to secure 11 nominations.

First-time nominees included Selena Gomez for Only Murders in the Building and Jonathan Bailey for Fellow Travelers. Meanwhile, Lily Gladstone and Kali Reis made history as the first Indigenous women to be nominated for acting at the Emmys.

Shows eligible for the Primetime Emmys must have been broadcast in the US between 1 June 2023 and 31 May 2024, with the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences choosing the nominees.

Follow below with all the live updates from the Emmy 2024 nominations announcement

Who has the most 2024 Emmy nominations?

Shōgun leads the nominations for the 2024 Emmys. FX’s Japan-set historical drama landed 25 nods, including Best Drama Series.

Also among the top nominees are The Bear (with 23 nominations), Only Murders in the Building (21), True Detective: Night Country (19) and The Crown (18). Meanwhile, Richard Gadd’s controversial Netflix hit, Baby Reindeer, managed to secure 11 nominations.

The Independent’s interview with Emmy nominee Richard Gadd

Richard Gadd’s smash Netflix hit Baby Reindeer has landed 11 Emmy nominations.

Among the nods is Best Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for Gadd, as well as Best Supporting Actress nominations in the equivalent category for Jessica Gunning and Nava Mau.

Back in April, Gadd spoke to The Independent’s Louis Chilton about his terrifying, real-life ordeal with a stalker that inspired the series.

The Independent's interview with Emmy nominee Kali Reis

Kali Reis joins Lily Gladstone as the first Indigenous women to be nominated for acting at the Emmys.

Earlier this year, the former world champion boxer and breakout star of True Detective: Night Country told us about how the new season flips gender dynamics, the importance of telling Indigenous stories, and why misogynistic “bros” need to stop sabotaging the show’s critical score.
