Netflix Obsession fans wish they could 'unsee' new BDSM mini-series after erotic pillow scene

Netflix fans are wishing they could 'unsee' the platform's latest series Obsession following an unusual scene which left them 'disgusted.'

Erotic thriller Obsession, which is set in London, dropped on the platform on Thursday (April 13). The four-part series sees Richard Armitage in the role of William, an esteemed surgeon who becomes infatuated with his son's fiancé Anna, who is played by Charlie Murphy.

The pair first meet at a party where sparks fly and they decide to meet up again in private. A steamy affair ensues, with William becoming increasingly more obsessed with Anna after every encounter. Creator Morgan Lloyd Malcolm has explained that even though the series is based on the 1990s book Damage by Josephine Hart, the Netflix series doesn't strictly stick to its original plot.

There has been a mixed reaction to the mini-series, with the BBC slamming it as 'flaccid' and 'excruciating to watch' while Rolling Stone hailed it as one of Netflix's 'kinkiest series yet'. But there's one scene in particular that has really got people talking.

During a trip to Paris, William discovers his lover’s hotel room and desperately sniffs around the bed in search of her scent. He appears to locate her smell on the pillow and proceeds to hump it.

Netflix fans took to Twitter to share their shock at the 'unhinged' scene. @girlonbakerlane asked: "How can I unsee this show? Tragic for someone who saw Hobbits for the first time 5 days ago just to watch Richard Armitage s**g a pillow a few days after #ObsessionNetflix" and @cleotio added: "Watching #ObsessionNetflix - the image of Richard Armitage and the pillow will stay with me for a long while - but not in a good way……."

@katyanna25 tweeted: "Lmaoo this is no longer Obsession, this is ridiculous. What was that sniffing pillow scene? #ObsessionNetflix" while @__jodie___ added: "Tbf he’s had more chemistry with that pillow than with both of the ladies he’s been… frolicking… with #ObsessionNetflix".

@KingNonie asked: "What in the unhinged madness is going on here chile. A pillow?! A pillow?! #ObsessionNetflix" and @Jadiahhh said: "Oh god I just made it to the pillow scene what in gods name #ObsessionNetflix". @_raerich_ declared: "#ObsessionNetflix whoever write that pillow scene need 10 Hail Marys cause ain’t no wayyyy".

Others were left 'disgusted'. @_lifeofriley92 said: "Me: excited to start a cool, dark, fatal attraction type thriller….. Also Me: Ends up watching some middle age Englishman s**g a pillow... #ObsessionNetflix" adding: "I’ve never been so disgusted…im bringing my own pillow to every hotel I ever visit".

Armitage previously told the Metro that the pillow scene was actually partly-improvised. He revealed: "It was really unexpected because it was written as quite a different scene. There was a tissue with her imprint of her lipstick on which we didn’t feel necessarily worked.

"I was really conscious that it shouldn’t be in any way comedic so we sort of left it quite open and it was a bit of an improvisation actually. Charlie had – without me knowing – sprayed her scent that she’d been wearing throughout the shoot into different parts of the bed and I just got the sense of it, and that’s where the scene just opened. But the recording it wasn’t too planned, actually."
