Netflix fires up yule logs inspired by 'Kpop Demon Hunters,' 'Stranger Things' and more

Stranger Things-inspired yule log on Netflix.

The televised yule log — that hours-long loop of a crackling log burning inside a fireplace, with a merry soundtrack of Christmas music playing in the background — is an annual holiday favorite. And this year, Netflix is giving the time-old tradition a modern-day update with yule logs inspired by the streaming service's most iconic IP.

With holiday season officially in swing, Netflix has launched three new virtual yule log streams based on some of its biggest TV series and movies: "Stranger Things" (which recently kicked off its fifth and final season with four new eps released on November 26), "Wednesday" (which wrapped up its second season this past September) and the fantasy-musical phenomenon "KPop Demon Hunters, which is the most-watched original title in Netflix history with 325 million views.

Each stream will transform the traditional holiday fireplace by transporting viewers into set pieces and a distinct world from those popular Netflix titles. The spirited hourlong experiences will include Easter eggs hidden throughout each space, along with original instrumental music renditions.

The "Stranger Things" yule log will showcase the Hawkins living room of the Byers family (portrayed in the sci-fi hit by Winona Ryder, Charlie Heaton and Noah Schnapp), complete with the original alphabet wall and holiday lights.

The "Wednesday" yule log stream is set inside the moody office of Principal Weems (the shapeshifting educator played by Gwendoline Christie) at Nevermore Academy, featuring a surprise appearance from Thing.

The yule log nspired by "KPop Demon Hunters" is, fittingly, the most otherworldly of the bunch, a supernatural fireplace inside demon king Gwi-Ma’s glowing underworld lair. Along with those colorful visuals, HUNTR/X fans can hear both original music and brand-new instrumental versions of popular songs from the fan-favorite animated movie.

The new yule-log streams continue a bit of a tradition for Netflix. Last year, the company similarly released themed yule logs based on popular titles like "Bridgerton," "Squid Game" and "Spellbound." (These are all still available to watch.) And if it's something more classic you're after, the streamer will continue to offer more standard fireplace videos, with options for music or no music, like the original "Fireplace for Your Home" series.

The proprietary yule logs are just the latest Christmastime campaign from the streamer, which also just launched the Netflix Holiday Collection, giving members a simple way to browse seasonal movies and TV shows while also offering up festively immersive visual designs while members search. (Speaking of, out of all of the Christmas movies and showing hitting the platform this December, here are five you should definitely add to your holiday watch list.)
