It has been two years since the last series of Netflix’s Dead to Me, but after several delays and pauses in production, season three of the original dark comedy is just around the corner. This original dark comedy revolves around two women who bond over death, while one harbours a dark secret.
The show has been another big hit for Netflix, with 30m views reported in its first month on the platform, according to The Hollywood Reporter. It also received several Emmy and Golden Globe nominations throughout its two-year run, and season two currently boasts an impressive Certified Fresh 94 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Plot details for Dead to Me’s third season have been kept well under wraps, but one of the show’s stars took to social media to assure fans the story will be tied up in the “best way.” The third and final season is just weeks away, but before then, here is everything you need to know about Dead to Me.
What is it about?
Dead to Me centres around Jen (Applegate) and Judy (Cardellini) as two grieving women who bond during therapy in California. Jen is mourning the loss of her husband, Ted, who was killed in a hit-and-run, while Judy claims she is grieving for her fiancé who died of a heart attack.
As it transpires, Judy is the hit-and-run driver responsible for Ted’s death, and her fiancé actually broke up with her. As the series progressed, its body-count rose, with both Jen and Judy being involved in some accidental – and not-so-accidental – deaths.
The last episode ended with more vehicular drama as both women were caught up in yet another hit-and-run. The upcoming season is set to kick off with the two friends dealing with its aftermath while both receiving shocking news.
Netflix’s official synopsis teases that both Jen and Judy are ready to risk their lives for a friendship that is above the law.
Who are the cast and crew?
Dead to Me stars Christina Applegate (Married... with Children, Anchorman) and Linda Cardellini (Scooby-Doo, Green Book) as two women brought together by death. In a supporting role is James Marsden (X-Men) as Judy's ex-fiancé Steve, a lawyer with ties to the mafia, and later as his twin Ben, who becomes a love interest for Jen.
Elsewhere is Max Jenkins as Christopher Doyle, Jen’s business partner and friend, and Diana Maria Riva (The West Wing) as Ana Perez, the police detective in charge of the hit-and-run case. The series is backed by an impressive team of Hollywood comedy legends behind the camera, with Will Ferrell (Anchorman) and Adam McKay – best known as director-producer of Anchorman, Step Brothers and Don’t Look Up – teaming up once again in executive producer roles.
The show is created and executive produced by Liz Feldman, who has written for shows including 2 Broke Girls and The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
When is Dead to Me released?
The third and final season of Dead to Me drops on Netflix on Thursday, November 17 at 8am. Season one and two both consisted of 10 episodes, and though it is yet to be confirmed, it would be expected season three would follow suit.
