Netflix confirms season 7 of Selling Sunset - release date, lingo meanings and cast as new 'villain' teased

The sixth series of hit property show Selling Sunset has just landed on Netflix, with Jason Oppenheim and Chrishell Stause returning to sell clients multi-million dollar homes in Los Angeles. The Netflix original has been popular with fans, with the streaming service confirming the series has also been commissioned for a seventh season already.

After the departure of Christine Quinn, who left the show after series five, viewers might have been forgiven for thinking there would be lack of drama. However, Emma Hernan, who joined Selling Sunset in series four, has promised a new 'villain'.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, she said: "Don't worry, we have a new villain...I will let you and the audience decide who you think it is. Everyone has their own opinions, I have mine and I don’t like the villain...We do not disappoint on the villain game. I just gave you a little bit of tea."

The new 'villain' is most likely Bre Tiesi, who is joining the cast for the first time. Tiesi is the former wife of NFL player Johnny Manziel and mother to Legendary Love Cannon (one of Nick Cannon's 12 children).

Selling Sunset has been so popular, that Netflix has commissioned to spin-offs, Selling Tampa and Selling the OC. The two follow the same premise, luxury lifestyles and properties with big price-tags.

When Selling Sunset series six is being released

The brand new series of Selling Sunset launched on Friday, May 19 with fans able to stream every episode of the new season from the get go. A recent instalment of Netflix's reality show has been eagerly anticipated following Quinn's departure, who left to start a crypto real estate brokerage with her husband, Christian Dumontet.

Meanwhile, one of the show's main stars, Chrishell has tied the knot with Australian singer G Flip. The real estate agent said she had no idea she was bisexual until she met her future wife, having previously been married to This Is US actor Justin Hartley.

In June last year, Netflix announced it had renewed Selling Sunset for a sixth and seventh series. At the time, Chrishell took to Instagram to reveal filming had started that summer.

Although the release date for when Selling Sunset season 7 might drop on Netflix is yet to be announced, fans can make a guess based on when previous seasons have come out.

  • Season 1 - March 2019
  • Season 2 - May 2020
  • Season 3 - August 2020
  • Season 4 - November 2021
  • Season 5 - April 2022
  • Season 6 - May 2023

Understanding Selling Sunset lingo

The US property system is different to here in the UK and comes with its own lingo. Luckily, Preply has come up with a comprehensive list of words used on the Netflix show and what they mean.

Escrow

A massive 104,480 people a month are searching for what this word means. In simple terms, escrow is when a third party is holding the funds for a property whilst offer conditions are confirmed. It protects both the buyer and seller.

Appreciation

The appreciation of a property is the amount of value a property had gained in a certain period of time. Not only can the housing market lead to a large amount of appreciation, but renovations and home improvements by homeowners can also lead to an increased value.

Double-ended deal

When an agent represents both the buyer and seller in one transaction. This can be a tricky situation, but if it works, this is a great way for the agent to make even more connections and money of course.

Realtor vs Real estate agent vs Broker

Preply says a real estate agent has a professional license to help people buy, sell, and rent real estate. They must work for a sponsoring broker or brokerage firm. A realtor is a real estate agent that is part of a trade association.

A broker is a real estate agent who has completed additional training and licensing requirements. They can work independently and hire other real estate agents to work for them. A broker can open up their own office, and get a piece of everyone's commission.
