Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed support for President-elect Donald Trump's stance on the issue of Hamas holding hostages. Netanyahu commended Trump for placing the emphasis on Hamas rather than the Israeli government, which he stated is a departure from the usual approach.
Trump recently called on Hamas to release all hostages before his inauguration on January 20. In a post on Truth Social, Trump highlighted the plight of the hostages who have been held by the Iran-backed terror group since October 7, 2023. The hostages were taken following an attack by Hamas on Israel, resulting in numerous casualties and kidnappings.
Of the remaining 101 hostages in Gaza, seven are American citizens. Trump criticized the lack of action being taken to secure their release, describing the situation as inhumane and against the will of the international community.
Trump issued a warning that if the hostages are not freed by January 20, 2025, when he assumes the presidency, there will be severe consequences for those responsible. He emphasized the need to increase pressure on Hamas and its supporters, rather than giving in to their demands.
Netanyahu echoed Trump's sentiments, stating that the key to securing the hostages' release is to escalate the costs for Hamas and defeat them. Both leaders are aligned in their approach to addressing the hostage situation and holding those accountable for the atrocities committed.
