Neiman Marcus is adding a new travel benefit for its employees who are unable to access certain health care services where they live, including abortion.
The addition is meant “to ensure equitable health care for our associates across geographies,” the Dallas-based retailer said.
Neiman Marcus joins other major U.S. corporations who have responded since Friday when the Supreme Court overturned Roe vs. Wade, which has stood since 1973.
Companies are reviewing benefits to help their workforces navigate changing laws.
Neiman Marcus has operations in 17 states with its largest employee base in Texas. The state is one of 13 awaiting the Supreme Court’s decision because they have trigger laws that would outlaw or almost completely ban abortions. Gov. Greg Abbott signed the law passed by the Legislature in 2021.
The retailer said its Heart of Neiman Marcus Foundation will be making donations “to trusted organizations that support reproductive health.”
Neiman Marcus also said in a statement that it plans to host information sessions that will create “a safe place for associates to discuss their views and help make informed decisions about their health care.”
Under CEO Geoffroy van Raemdonck, the retailer has had a focus on LGBTQ inclusivity in recent years and promoted itself as a woman co-founded and majority women-led company based on executive positions.
