Owen Adam answered Neilston’s SOS injury call and ended up slamming home a memorable winner.
The Farmer’s Boys were down to the bare bones on Saturday when they took on St Roch’s at the Brig O’Lea Stadium.
Sitting at 2-1 down in the second half, Neilston could have crumbled but instead battled back to level terms when Kieron Maxwell netted an equaliser.
And things got even sweeter for the hosts when youngster Adam’s superb strike rippled the net from 25 yards to seal all three points for the East Renfrewshire club.
After a disappointing couple of results, Neilston co-boss Chris Cameron was delighted with the character his side showed to not down tools and keep plugging away to turn things around.
Cameron told Express Sport: “We’re delighted to come away from that game with a win.
“We had four or five great opportunities in the first half but ended up going into half-time 1-0 down after they won a penalty on the break.
“ We levelled through Dylan Fletcher but they went ahead from a simple set play, which was hugely disappointing.
“We feared the worst then. The heads could easily have dropped but the lads deserve a lot of credit for turning it around.
“The lads have taken a bit of criticism over the last few weeks and we’ve been toiling to put a team on the park at the moment in all honesty.
“Owen has came up from the under-20s and it was probably unfair on us to even put him on, but it was needs must at that point.
“He’s not had much of a part of it so far, but it was a real sweet strike and I’m sure he was on cloud nine after it.”
Next up for Neilston is a clash against Fourth Division side Harmony Row in the South of Scotland Challenge Cup.
While they are new to the WoSFL set-up and starting at the bottom, Cameron insists his side won’t be taking them lightly in a competition they’re determined to do well in.
Cameron said: “This is a big tournament at our level, probabl y the biggest target outside the league.
“There’s a lot of Lowland League teams involved, the likes of East Kilbride and Broomhill FC, so we’ll be looking to do our best and show what we’re made of in the competition.
“Harmony Row have had some up and down results so far and we don’t know an awful lot about them.
“We’ve got a good few back in who have been unavailable recently, so we’ll be going with a strong team.
“We won’t be taking the challenge lightly, that’s for sure.”
