“It is with a heavy heart we inform you of the passing of our founder Neil Salt,” they said.

“Neil passed away peacefully after a sudden illness on Wednesday 27th April aged 75.

“Neil started Saltmarine in 1969 and dedicated his life to growing a business that would become known for the very highest standards of customer care.

“Over the years he formed personal friendships with so many customers and enjoyed seeing the same faces return time and again.

“He will be missed by all.”

Former customers and friends paid tribute to the popular businessman under a Facebook post announcing the sad news.

“Such a terrible loss not only to his family but the entire community,” one person said.

“Will always remember him as not only a great businessman but mainly as a great friend gone too soon.”

“We were privileged to call Neil a friend during our twenty years plus of doing business with Saltmarine,” another said.

“Just recently when in the showroom I had a long chat with him. To Anne and the boys we offer our heartfelt sympathy. What a legacy he has left behind.”

Neil is survived by wife Anne and children Alan, Caroline, Tony, Jack & Michael, with his funeral service to take place on Saturday.
