Neil Lennon 'set to complete' stunning return to management

Celtic hero Neil Lennon is set to make a return to football management, according to a report.

The 52-year-old is on the verge of becoming the new manager of Rapid Bucharest.

The Scottish Sun reports that negotiations over a two-year deal worth £1.5m are being finalised.

Lenny held talks with the Romanian outfit last week.

Now, it appears a deal to return to coaching is nearing completion, and that will spell an end to 19 months out of the game for the Scottish football icon.

The report states that barring any last-gap hitches, Lennon will be announced as Rapid's new manager following the Bucharest derby with Steaua this weekend.

Lennon has been out of work since being sacked by Cypriot club Omonia 19 months ago.

He's been linked with a host of clubs in that time, including Hibernian and Aberdeen.

Nick Montgomery's departure from Easter Road immediately put him in the frame for a shock return to the Leith-based club.

However, it seems that is not a route either party will go down, with Lennon set to replace Cristiano Bergodi as head coach of Rapid.

They finished second in Liga 1 before losing seven of their eight play-off matches.

Meanwhile, Alistair Johnston has responded to claims by Philippe Clement that the gap between Rangers and Celtic is not that great and revealed the crucial factor which he believes has given the Parkhead club an edge over their nearest challengers this term.

Clement stated on Monday that the only difference between the two Glasgow clubs this term has been the squad members he has been missing due to long-term knocks.

However, the Scottish champions have had to play without Cameron Carter-Vickers, Reo Hatate and Callum McGregor during the 2023/24 campaign and they are on the verge of a league and cup double.
