Neil Lennon reveals Celtic influences as ex-Hoops boss blasts 'difficult' social media pressure

Neil Lennon has explained the pointers he's taken from Celtic favourities Martin O'Neil and Gordon Strachan - as he takes aim at some aspects of the modern game.

The former Parkhead bosses alongside Lennon's former manager at Manchester City, Howard Kendall, have been highlighted as key influences in the current Omonia Nicosia boss' management style. His team are in the Europa League group stages and have a huge double-header with Manchester United coming up this autumn.

The former Hoops midfielder hasn't been in Scotland since leaving his post as Celtic manager in 2021, but many of the lessons learned in Scotland have followed him to Cyprus. That said, some of the ways football has developed since his playing days aren't to his liking, such as the way social media can sometimes be the harshest critic for a player. He told OFC TV: "I've worked with some great managers. Howard Kendall when I was younger, I had Martin O'Neill for 10 years, Gordon Strachan, these were all big personalities and great coaches in their own right.

"Kendall and O'Neill were fantastic man-managers and they had a huge impact on their teams with their personality. Just because they weren't coaching all the time doesn't mean they weren't great tacticians.

"They knew how to push your buttons. Gordon Strachan was a good man-manager and very good on the training ground. You learn and you pick up little bits from them as you go along and integrate them into your own style and personality.

"Football has to be enjoyed, it's too much of a business now. There's so much analysis and scrutiny. There's so much social media opinion.

"It's difficult for the players. When they come to training this should be their oasis to come and enjoy what they do, being away from all that outside influence."
